The Members
Emily Romano
Baritone/alto sax
Emily has been a middle school band teacher for 26 years. Her award winning school bands have earned recognition at the Great East Festival and the Clark Terry Jazz Festival. In 2020 she and her students collaborated with Godsmack and appeared in their “Unforgettable” video.
Emily was valedictorian of her high school class and graduated summa cum laude from UNH’s undergraduate music program. She has a Masters Degree in Instrumental Music Education from Plymouth State. Emily has played with the Boston Philharmonic as well as a variety of local bands, including the Tower of Power-influenced band Manchuka where “Nurse Em” was the bari sax equivalent to ToP’s Funky Doctor.
In 2020 after Manchuka’s band leader retired, Emily assembled a group of musicians to form Emily’s Garage Band, playing classic funk, soul, and rock music throughout northern New England.
Bruce Smith
Vocals/percussion
Greg Mostovoy
Tenor sax
Greg has had the good fortune to be able to play sax/woodwinds regularly for 50+ years. Four years in
Marine bands and a year on cruise ships afforded him exposure to many different influences and the opportunity to progress on his instruments. Ten years in Chicago saw him playing in a variety of bands for private functions, festivals and clubs, including concerts with Maynard Ferguson, Pete Christlieb, The Temptations, Tex Beneke, Frank Mantooth and The Modernaires, in addition to being a member of both The Bob Stone Big Band and Rob Parton’s Jazztech Bands.
After moving to New Hampshire in the early 90’s, Greg landed gigs with Skip Poole’s various groups,
including the Capitol Jazz Orchestra (CJO). Resident at the Capitol Center For The Arts in Concord, NH,
the CJO has backed jazz greats Butch Miles, Ken Peplowski, Carmen Bradford, The Four Freshmen,
John Pizzarelli and Byron Stripling, among others. Greg also made the acquaintance of Bill Wightman and has been a part his jazz series behind notable regional and national artists Giacomo Gates, Paul
Absell, Donna Byrne, Jeff Stout, Tiger Akoshi and Christine Fawson.
After getting his funk on for many years with Manchuka, Greg is now part of Emily’s Garage Band and insists it’s still some of the most fun you can have while upright!
Jessica “Juice” Ripley
Trumpet
Jessie’s love for music goes back to childhood. She has always been passionate (obsessed) with all genres of it, the more obscure the better. Dabbling in the learning of and collecting of various instruments, she is also an avid listener, and her ever-expansive library of books, recordings and equipment speaks to that. She picked up the trumpet at age 9 and has been playing for 30 years. She also plays cornet and flugelhorn regularly, keys and guitar for fun, and is most recently teaching herself trombone. She studied music education at Plymouth State University and has been involved in multiple projects, including brass and marching bands, ensembles, jazz and big band groups, as well as pit and symphony work throughout the Northeast. She currently plays 2nd trumpet and occasionally displays her unique repertoire of funky dance moves in Emily’s Garage Band.
Bob Couturier
Trumpet
Robert received his education in Trumpet Performance and Composition/Music Theory at The Boston Conservatory where he received a Bachelor of Music Degree. He also earned a Master of Arts in Teaching Music at UNH. Throughout his 25 year career as a professional musician, he was a founding member, business manager and performer for three music groups.
Michael Ginsbert
Bass guitar
Michael Ginsberg has been playing professionally for 55 years, starting with his high school rock band in St. Louis. While bass guitar has always been his primary instrument, Michael is also a classically trained pianist and can also hold his own on guitar. He continued his side gig as a rock musician while at The University of Michigan, founding two bands in Ann Arbor and taking one to his new home in Boulder, Colorado.
His subsequent travels took him to several stops along the way to his current residence in The Granite State, where he continued to expand his musical resume. Michael was the founding member of the popular Biggs Band, a 10-piece R&B show band, touring northern New England in the 90’s and early 2000’s. Since then he has performed with several rock, blues and R&B bands throughout New Hampshire and Massachusetts. In addition to laying the foundation for Emily’s Garage Band, Michael is currently keeping quite busy playing bass and keyboards in four other groups, including three classic rock bands as well as The Soultown Band, New England’s premier Motown show band. The opportunity to add funk to his repertoire while playing with the incredible musicians in EGB is a perfect capstone to his musical journey.
